Life Laughs is again...such a raw, honest book that sometimes I found myself scrunching up my face wondering why I kept reading...but kind of like a train wreck, you just can't force yourself to look away.
So...this post somehow got published before I was finished...so now I will finish it! lol
As I was saying...Life Laughs is incredibly...there.... Although I greatly enjoyed learning about things that I never knew before (I lead a pretty nieve, sheltered life), I was also rather grossed out by several of the chapters. Wow. That's stuff I never needed to know! :0)
The one thing in this book that saddened me was her outlook on marriage and divorce. She is divorced and in the chapter explaining her divorce she portrayed (to me at least) that she always thought divorce was an option. She says that she got married too quickly, which I think just "proves" that today's society downplays the importance of a marriage. We view it as something that we can rush into and then get out (with no consequences) if we see later down the road that "it's just not working out". So sad. What happened to God's idea of marriage, God's plan for marriage and a marriage relationship?

Just so I am sure.... was she a Playboy Bunny? Or was she on some nineties TV show?
Are you enjoying the second book? I really like when authors are completley honest and you think... Gosh, I have always wondered about that...
Yes, she was a Playboy Bunny, she also does some comedy (like hosts award shows, etc.) and she's been in several movies....not sure about TV Shows.
I'v thought about reading her books, but just hadn't been quite sure. I think I'm going to try them.
I have to agree with you on marriage. It is sad to see the way it has been changed in the perception of the world. Marriage is such a beautiful thing, but just like anything great, it takes alot of work. I think people don't realize sometimes what is really required. I know I was married young (19 in fact), but it was the best decision. I can attribute making that right decision for me to lots and lots of prayer. I think the best thing we can do to perpetuate God's plan for marriage is to teach our children about what marriage truly means in God's eyes.
I'm not sure if you'll enjoy her books or not Amanda...honestly, she is SOOO honest...I blushed SEVERAL times reading the two books of hers that I've read so far. They are both very easy, fast reads...I just wouldn't go into them looking for an "wholesome" information...they are purely time killers. lol I read them both while waiting for my new Father Tim book to come in that I had ordered. They did the job, passed my time - and made me laugh a few times! Let me know how feel about them if you decide to read them!
Okay, I'm going to read them. I like scandelously honest info.
Yes - I would recommend them to anyone - as long as they were aware of what they were getting themselves into ahead of time! ;0) Can't wait to hear your opinions Bethany!
I like honesty, and you would be surprised at what it takes to make me blush these days. After marching Drum Corp and living and working in Orlando and Memphis, my small town sheltered perspectives have been blown wide open. I really wanted to read her book about her and her son's struggles with Autism. I've been blessed to work with four different children that had signs of Autism and I have a cousin that has Aspergers. I hadn't decided to read them because I have a hard time with auto-bigraphicals seeming a little boring even when they are about a good subject. Not everyone knows how to tell a good story. I am excited to read it because it doesn't sound anywhere near boring. I really appreciate the reviews. Thanks.
