Daddy Dates

Graysen and Daddy getting ready to leave on their date.

This mom has mentioned "Special Time" on her blog several times, and I always found it inspiring that they could find the time for her husband to take one child out for one on one time when they have 6 (almost 7) children! I finally asked her how it worked in their home, and I think it's a fantastic method! We decided we wanted to copy her and start what we call "Daddy Dates" in our home. Lincoln is going to take one child out each week (as to not make it an unrealistic goal). They will spend at least an hour together, hopefully more. The child will be given 5.00 to spend however they choose (as to not break the budget). They could go get ice cream, eat a McDonalds, or save it and choose a free activity.

Lincoln took Graysen out on her first date this past Monday. Let me tell you...she was excited! She was still asleep when Lincoln called (from work on break) to ask her if she wanted to go, so when I told her when she woke up she was thrilled. She wanted to pick out a pretty outfit and get her baby doll dressed up for the occasion! As soon as she saw her Dad pull in from work she came running inside screaming for me to get her dressed. It was adorable.

I am so grateful for a husband who values time with his children. I'm also thankful that our kids (both boys and girls) will learn how they should be treated / treat others on dates. I think that when our boys get older and closer to dating age we will have them take me out on a few dates to practice their gentlemanly skills. Raising boys who are gentleman and have a great respect for women is very important to us. Our hope is that after all these years of Daddy Dates, all of our kids expectations will be high and they will take great care in choosing who they are going to spend their time dating.

I also dream that Graysen will continue to have Daddy Dates even after she's married. I can imagine her and her family coming home to visit and her Daddy taking her out on a special date. I hope that this will be a life-long bond for them.

Thank you Lincoln, for taking the time to invest in our children. It means the world to me.

We do this at our house as well. My husband makes a point of opening doors, pulling out her chair etc. To show how a gentleman should treat any lady (wife, mother, girlfriend etc). The earlier the kids learn it, the more natural it comes. I loved the pictures, she was excited for sure!!!
