2 years is coming up quickly.
2 years of Blake and Silas being my sons.
2 years of them learning a new language, a new culture, and how to be a part of a family.
A friend reminded me recently that the first year was a wash.
We were all in total shock, overwhelmed by every part of them joining our family.
The second year was the testing year.
They needed to know their boundaries and expectations.
It's been a trying year...that's for sure.
I've been doing a lot of thinking a lot lately. A lot of trying to remember how far we've come in the last two years. I know in my mind that God has been faithful, I know He's helped our boys, and our family heal.
I also know he cares about the little details...like providing me with physical proof.
This is Blake on his first day of Kindergarten.
No idea how to hold the dinosaurs,
No idea how to smile
He refused to take off his backpack (for fear of it being taken from him)
He was still wearing his bracelet that we sent him in his Family Bag in Ethiopia.
So confused,
So scared.
This is Blake right before Christmas Break.
Still no idea how to smile,
Still a very tense posture.
But better, much better.
This is Blake on the last day of school.
Whew.
He understands what a dinosaur is,
he knows how to hold a toy animal.
So much more relaxed,
A genuine smile.
I'm so grateful when God makes Himself so obvious!

That is amazing!!! Thanks for sharing!
We are close to celebrating Grace's two year anniversary of coming home to0 (july)! You are so right about the first year being a blur and the second year of being such a year of growth (emotional as well as physical). I remember the first year being full of challenges and yet it is a bit like labor - you really do forget some of it, don't you? Your boys are adorable and it seems like they are doing really well. So happy for you!
Justin and I were just talking about your "2-year anniversary" the other day. It doesn't seem like it's "only" been two years (although I'm sure there were moments that drug on fooooreeeeveeeer). It feels like Blake and Silas have always been part of our family.
