7th Birthday Celebrations Begin!!

It's birthday week!
I can not express in words how excited I am about Blake and Silas' birthday.
It's their 7th birthday...but their 1st with us!

I have had some sadness, I must say, leading up to these days. I can't write about their births, I can't tell you how much they weighed, or what time of day they were born. To be honest, I can't even tell you that their birthdays are correct. But, I'm going to do my best to let go of all of that, and know that the most important thing is that they are being celebrated...their births are important! I wasn't there when they were born, but I am here now, loving them and celebrating them!!

Birthday week was kicked off with Blake and Silas taking a special trip to St. Louis with Aunt Sissy and Chad! Aunt Sissy told them they could make their very own Build a Bears for their birthday this year! So off they went...

Blake picked out a tiger (no surprise there!), and Silas a panda bear.

They stuffed them, put their heart in, and picked out clothes...

They gave them baths...
and named them. Blake's tiger is named Kody, and Silas' panda is named Kung Fu Kung Fu Panda. (I was informed it's very important that we use both names together - maybe like Silas Sintayehu...?)

After they left (their first trip to) the mall, they got to eat at their favorite resturant...Meskerem!! How thoughtful of Sissy and Chad to take them for Ethiopian food. They greatly enjoyed their sambosas, injera and doro wat!

They were very excited when they got home (with Mrs. Field's cookies in tow for their brother and sister).

Thank you Aunt Sis and Chad for carving out special time with the boys, and taking them to do something so exciting!

Stay tuned this week for more birthday celebrations: classroom parties, birthday family nights, and a skating party with our small group!

How exciting for them to do Build a Bear! That's a perfect age to appreciate making them!

I wonder about their birth mom. She cannot forget their births and I bet she cannot imagine even what birthdays in your house are like. Its so interesting that you and her are so connected and so disconnected at the same time! I bet these birthday rituals help the boys to feel more connected into your family, and that is so great!

Yes, Mrs. Haid, I have thought and prayed for their 1st mom a lot in the last few weeks. I have also written her a letter and am waiting to include birthday pictures before I send it. My feelings for her are so complex it's impossible to put them into words, although I try from time to time...

Sounds like a great way to start off the Birthday Celebration!
